Introduction

I was born in rural Oklahoma outside Oklahoma City on March 4, 1949. I was reared in a Christian home and became a follower of Jesus Christ when I was 10 years old. My family moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma when I was in the sixth grade. We later moved to Fort Worth, Texas when I was in the 10th grade. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at the University of Texas, Arlington in 1971.

After obtaining my B.S. degree I served for two years as a Missionary Journeyman with the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and taught math, physics and chemistry in Nyeri, Kenya, East Africa (1971-1973).

While working on my Master of Science and PhD degrees in Statistics at Oklahoma State University I had several Graduate Teaching Assistantships teaching algebra, calculus, and statistics. I also had several Graduate Research Assistant positions funded by grants from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Air Force.

In July, 1977 after obtaining my PhD degree I began working for the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While at CDC I married and had two daughters each of whom are now married. My two daughters each have a boy and a girl so I have 4 grandchildren. I am still employed at CDC and am an active member of Briarcliff Baptist Church where I teach a Bible study for young adults.
