Introduction

I am an analytical chemist, working as a postdoctoral research fellow at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine- Baltimore, MD 21287, USA. My research primarily focused on the development of the sensitive and novel hyphenated mass spectrometric analytical methods for the discovery of biomarkers associated with various diseased conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, HIV associated neurodegenerative diseases, Crohn’s Disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In these studies, blood, tissue and cerebral spinal fluid samples obtained from ongoing clinical studies are analyzed for metabolic and lipid profiles through a variety of biochemical, mass spectrometry and bioinformatic techniques. These biomarkers can then be used in the diagnosis of disease, as prognostic indicators to predict disease course, or as substitute markers to track the effectiveness of disease modifying interventions.
