Dr. Matthew B. Schabath

Ph.D

Introduction

Dr. Schabath is an Associate Member in the Departments of Cancer Epidemiology and Thoracic Oncology at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. He received his Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Texas in 2003 and completed a Postdoctoral Cancer Prevention Fellowship in 2006 at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Schabath’s current research interests include developing quantitative imaging-based (radiomics) models to improve risk prediction and reduce overdiagnosis in early detection and develop classifiers to discriminate therapeutic responses in lung cancer patients. Currently Dr. Schabath is a PI on a U01 imaging validation center grant from the Early Detection Research Network (EDRN), a PI on a U01 grant from the Quantitative Imaging Network (QIN) that is developing radio-genomic risk models to predict lung cancer recurrence, and a Co-I on a U01 grant from the consortium of the Molecular Characterization of Screen-Detected Lesions (MCL). Additionally, Dr. Schabath has established track records in infectious disease research and health disparities research including sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations and racial/ethnic minority groups.
