[Application of deep learning assisted electronic laryngoscope in diagnosis of laryngeal leukoplakia].

In recent years, medical imaging technology and computer technology have made great progress. On the one hand, with the development and popularization of electronic laryngoscope, the image of electronic laryngoscope plays a very important role in the diagnosis of vocal cord lesions. On the other hand, deep learning algorithm,especially convolutional neural networkhas gradually become the first choice of medical image recognition since the foundation of deep learning algorithm. So far, deep learning algorithm has made great contributions in many disciplines. In this paper, the basic concept of deep learning, the current status of image recognition of vocal cord lesions, and the prospect of research based on deep learning in vocal cord image lesions recognition are reviewed.

Prosociality and Social Responsibility Were Associated With Intention of COVID-19 Vaccination Among University Students in China.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination is expected to end the pandemic; a high coverage rate is required to meet this end. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of behavioral intention of free/self-paid COVID-19 vaccination and its associations with prosociality and social responsibility among university students in China.

Methods: An anonymous online cross-sectional survey was conducted among 6922 university students in five provinces in China during November 1-28, 2020. With informed consent, participants filled out an online survey link distributed to them via WeChat study groups. The response rate was 72.3%.

Results: The prevalence of behavioral intentions of free COVID-19 vaccination was 78.1%, but it dropped to 57.7% if the COVID-19 vaccination involved self-payment (400 RMB; around 42 USD). After adjusting for background factors, prosociality (free vaccination: adjusted odds ratio [ORa] = 1.10, 95% CI: 1.09-1.12; self-paid vaccination: ORa = 1.08, 95% CI: 1.07-1.09) and social responsibility (free vaccination: ORa = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.14-1.19; self-paid vaccination: ORa = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.11-1.14) were positively associated with the two variables of COVID-19 vaccination intention.

Conclusion: The present study demonstrated the positive effects of prosociality and social responsibility on the intention of COVID-19 vaccination. Accordingly, modification of prosociality and social responsibility can potentially improve COVID-19 vaccination. Future longitudinal and intervention studies are warranted to confirm such associations across populations and countries.

Secondary Oxalate Nephropathy: Causes and Clinicopathological Characteristics of a Case Series.

Introduction: Secondary oxalate nephropathy (OxN) is associated with a variety of causes and has not been well characterized in Chinese population. To investigate the etiology, clinicopathological features, and outcomes of secondary OxN, we report a case series from a single center in China.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 68 patients diagnosed with secondary OxN by renal biopsy from January 2013 to February 2019 in Jinling Hospital was performed.

Results: Secondary OxN accounted for 0.23% of the renal biopsies and 2.31% of patients who received renal biopsies due to acute kidney injury (AKI). A total of 49 men and 19 women with an average age of 51.6 ± 11.8 years were enrolled. The most common cause was iatrogenic medication, followed by oxalate-rich diet and industry exposure. Stage 1, 2, and 3 AKI and AKI on chronic kidney disease (ACKD) were found in 4.4, 8.8, 69.1, and 17.6% of the patients, respectively. The peak serum creatinine during hospitalization was 8.62 ± 4.67 mg/dL. The median urinary oxalate excretion was 51.5 (23.2-147.1) mg/24 h. Kidney biopsy showed extensive calcium oxalate crystal deposits with acute tubulointerstitial nephritis. Thirty-four patients (50.0%) required renal replacement therapy. At the end of a follow-up that lasted 8.7 (0.1-72.1) months, 81.0% of patients achieved renal function recovery in 50 (14-432) days. Patients with renal function recovery had a lower rate of ACKD, a higher level of hemoglobin, a lower level of urine lysozyme, and a lower degree of interstitial fibrosis/tubular atrophy, interstitial inflammation, and global glomerulosclerosis than those in the nonrecovery group.

Conclusions: In this case series of secondary OxN, the most common cause was iatrogenic medication, and it presented with AKI or ACKD. Half of the patients required renal replacement therapy, and in most of them, the renal function was reversible. Renal biopsy played an important role in diagnosis and prognosis evaluation.

Au Modified F-TiO for Efficient Photocatalytic Synthesis of Hydrogen Peroxide.

In this work, Au-modified F-TiO is developed as a simple and efficient photocatalyst for HO production under ultraviolet light. The Au/F-TiO photocatalyst avoids the necessity of adding fluoride into the reaction medium for enhancing HO synthesis, as in a pure TiO reaction system. The F modification inhibits the HO decomposition through the formation of the ≡Ti-F complex. Au is an active cocatalyst for photocatalytic HO production. We compared the activity of TiO with F modification and without F modification in the presence of Au, and found that the HO production rate over Au/F-TiO reaches four times that of Au/TiO. In situ electron spin resonance studies have shown that HO is produced by stepwise single-electron oxygen reduction on the Au/F-TiO photocatalyst.

Effects of nearly four decades of long-term fertilization on the availability, fraction and environmental risk of cadmium and arsenic in red soils.

Fertilizers are important for agricultural production because they can effectively promote crop productivity. However, long-term fertilization can cause heavy metal accumulation in soils and crops. This study utilized sequential extraction, the diffusive gradient in the thin films (DGT) technique and risk assessment models to estimate the effects of the longest long-term fertilization (38 years) in China on cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) accumulation in soils. The treatments included no fertilization (CK); inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilization (NPK); manure fertilization (M); and NPK plus M cofertilization (NPKM). The results indicated that the soils treated with NPKM, M and NPK had significantly increased total and available concentrations of Cd and As after 38 years of long-term fertilization. Cd mainly originates from cattle manure, while As originates from phosphate fertilizer. Sequential extraction results indicated that the application of manure increased the acid/exchangeable fraction (F1) and organic matter-bound fraction (F3) of Cd and As. The risk assessment results showed that the environmental risks of both Cd and As increased during long-term fertilization, and Cd contamination in the soil was at a moderate-high level, while As remained at a relatively low level. According to the calculations of the maximum numbers of years of soil productivity and rice production, Cd was labile and accumulated in the soils, and As was more labile than Cd in terms of accumulating in rice, indicating that the true risk from As in rice is higher than that from Cd. Controlling the heavy metals in fertilizers, mitigating effective amendments, and identifying plant types that accumulate low amounts of contaminants may be good choices for cleaner crop production.

Parental acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination for children under the age of 18 years among Chinese doctors and nurses: a cross-sectional online survey.

This study investigated parental acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination for children under the age of 18 years among Chinese parents who are healthcare workers. A closed online survey among full-time doctors or nurses employed by the five collaborative hospitals who had access to smartphones was conducted. Facilitated by the hospital administrators, prospective participants received an invitation sent by the research team via the existing WeChat/QQ groups to complete an online questionnaire. A total of 2,281 participants completed the survey. This study was a sub-analysis of 1332 participants who had at least one child under the age of 18 years. Among the participants, 44.5% reported that they would likely or very likely to have their children under the age of 18 years take up COVID-19 vaccination in the next six months. After adjusting for significant background characteristics, perceived higher vaccine efficacy, longer protection duration, perceived high/very high chance for China to prevent another wave of COVID-19 outbreak with vaccines in place and willingness to receive a COVID-19 vaccination for themselves were associated with higher parental acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination. At interpersonal level, higher frequency of information exposure through social media and direct interpersonal communication were associated with higher parental acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination, while knowing some people who experienced serious side effects following COVID-19 vaccination were associated with lower parental acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination. Despite their important roles in vaccination promotion, Chinese doctors and nurses showed low parental acceptability of COVID-19 vaccination. Effective health promotion is needed when COVID-19 vaccination become available.

A Functional Indel Polymorphism Within MIR155HG Is Associated With Sudden Cardiac Death Risk in a Chinese Population.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a devastating complication of multiple disease processes and has gradually became a major public health issue. miR-155 is one of the best characterized miRNAs and plays a critical role in several physiological and pathological process, including cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we systematically screened the whole region of miR-155 host gene () and identified a 4-bp insertion/deletion variant (rs72014506) residing in the intron region of as the candidate polymorphism. The association of rs72014506 with SCD susceptibility was evaluated using 166 SCD cases and 830 healthy controls in a Chinese population. Logistic regression analysis suggested that the homozygote del/del genotype significantly decreased the risk of SCD [odds ratio (OR) = 0.29; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.12-0.74; = 0.0004]. Further genotype-expression association study using human myocardium tissue samples suggested that the deletion allele was intimately linked to lower the expression of both MIR155HG and mature miR155. Luciferase activity assay also revealed that the deletion allele of rs72014506 inhibited gene transcriptional activity. Finally, we performed electrophoretic mobility shift assay and verified the preferential binding affinity of the deletion allele with POU2F1 (POU domain class 2 transcription factor 1). Collectively, we have successfully identified a SCD risk conferring polymorphism in the gene and a likely biological mechanism for the decreased risk of SCD associated with the deletion allele. This novel variant may thus serve as a potential genetic marker for SCD diagnosis and prevention in natural populations, if validated by further studies with a larger sample size.

Reversible GABAergic dysfunction involved in hippocampal hyperactivity predicts early-stage Alzheimer disease in a mouse model.

Background: Neuronal hyperactivity related to β-amyloid (Aβ) is considered an early warning sign of Alzheimer disease (AD). Although increasing evidence supports this opinion, the underlying mechanisms are still unknown.

Methods: Here, we recorded whole-cell synaptic currents and membrane potentials using patch clamping of acute hippocampal slices from human amyloid precursor protein (APP)/presenilin-1 transgenic (5XFAD) mice and their wild-type littermates. Biochemical methods, electron microscopic imaging, behavioral tests, and intraventricular drug delivery applied with osmotic pumps were used in this study.

Results: We confirmed hyperactivity of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons in 5XFAD mice using whole-cell electrophysiological recording at 2.5 months old, when local Aβ-positive plaques had not developed and only mild cognitive dysfunction occurred. We further discovered attenuated inhibitory postsynaptic currents and unchanged excitatory postsynaptic currents in CA1 pyramidal neurons, in which the intrinsic excitability was unchanged. Moreover, the density of both γ-aminobutyric acid A (GABA) receptor subunits, α1 and γ2, was reduced in synapses of the hippocampus in transgenic mice. Intriguingly, early intervention with the GABA receptor agonist gaboxadol reversed the hippocampal hyperactivity and modestly ameliorated cognitive performance in 5XFAD mice under our experimental conditions.

Conclusions: Inhibitory postsynaptic disruption critically contributes to abnormalities in the hippocampal network and cognition in 5XFAD mice and possibly in AD. Therefore, strengthening the GABAergic system could be a promising therapy for AD in the early stages.

Development of a Computerized Adaptive Test for Quantifying Chinese Medicine Syndrome of Myasthenia Gravis on Basis of Multidimensional Item Response Theory.

Background: Making comprehensive management of myasthenia gravis (MG) is a challenge in clinical practice due to heterogeneity and multiple comorbidities among patients.

Aim: To develop an end-to-end instrument for individualized assessment of MG in the perspective of Chinese medicine (TCM) with the application of multidisciplinary quantification approaches.

Methods: A self-administrated questionnaire was developed integrating typical symptoms of MG and spleen-kidney deficiency syndrome on basis of the conceptual framework of TCM. With data collected in a multicenter cross-sectional study, confirmatory factor analysis together with multidimensional item response theory (MIRT) was used for evaluating the psychometric property of the questionnaire. A computerized adaptive test was developed based on the MIRT model, and scores of syndrome factors were calculated in simulation. A logistics regression model was also estimated for evaluating the consistency between the quantitative result and the clinical diagnosis of syndrome from clinical practitioners.

Result: With 337 patients enrolled and assessed, the 14-item questionnaire was evaluated to be with adequate validity and reliability (Cronbach's alpha indices = 0.87, AIC = 195.827, BIC = 348.631, CFI = 0.921, RMR = 0.006, GFI = 0.954, RMSEA = 0.048, and 2/df = 1.782). With adequate factor loadings of symptoms on related syndrome factor, the instrument was evaluated with preliminary interpretation and was suitable for evaluating patients with moderate severity of the spleen and kidney deficiency syndrome.

Conclusion: Setting typical symptoms of MG together with systemic discomforts in a computerized adaptive test on the basis of MIRT, this study proposed an innovative research paradigm for quantifying individual condition in the perspective of TCM with application of interdisciplinary approaches.

A novel radiomics-platelet nomogram for the prediction of gastroesophageal varices needing treatment in cirrhotic patients.

Background And Aims: Highly accurate noninvasive methods for predicting gastroesophageal varices needing treatment (VNT) are desired. Radiomics is a newly emerging technology of image analysis. This study aims to develop and validate a novel noninvasive method based on radiomics for predicting VNT in cirrhosis.

Methods: In this retrospective-prospective study, a total of 245 cirrhotic patients were divided as the training set, internal validation set and external validation set. Radiomics features were extracted from portal-phase computed tomography (CT) images of each patient. A radiomics signature (Rad score) was constructed with the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm and tenfold cross-validation in the training set. Combined with independent risk factors, a radiomics nomogram was built with a multivariate logistic regression model.

Results: The Rad score, consisting of 14 features from the gastroesophageal region and 5 from the splenic hilum region, was effective for VNT classification. The diagnostic performance was further improved by combining the Rad score with platelet counts, achieving an AUC of 0.987 (95% CI 0.969-1.00), 0.973 (95% CI 0.939-1.00) and 0.947 (95% CI 0.876-1.00) in the training set, internal validation set and external validation set, respectively. In efficacy and safety assessment, the radiomics nomogram could spare more than 40% of endoscopic examinations with a low risk of missing VNT (< 5%), and no more than 8.3% of unnecessary endoscopic examinations still be performed.

Conclusions: In this study, we developed and validated a novel, diagnostic radiomics-based nomogram which is a reliable and noninvasive method to predict VNT in cirrhotic patients.

The effect of combined supplementation with vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids on blood glucose and blood lipid levels in patients with gestational diabetes.

Background: To investigate the effects of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids on glucose and blood lipid metabolism in gestational diabetes (GDM) women.

Methods: A total of 150 patients with GDM aged 18-40 who were admitted to our hospital from May 2019 to December 2020 were enrolled in this study. The subjects were divided into test and control groups according to whether they took vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids. The test group took 40,000 IU of vitamin D and 8,000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids twice a day. Comparative analysis of the changes in blood glucose and blood lipid levels of the two groups of patients was performed after 6 weeks. The t-test was used to compare the differences between groups, and the chi-square test was used to assess percentage differences. Repeated measures variance was used to analyze the effects of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids on insulin metabolism markers and blood lipid profiles.

Results: After adjusting for baseline age and weight, it was found that the fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglycerides (TGs), total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) in the test group were decreased by 0.3±0.2 mmol/L, 1.0±0.6 uIU/mL, 0.2±0.1, 0.3±0.1 mmol/L, 0.5±0.2 mmol/L, 1.1±0.4 mmol/L, and 0.03±0.01 mmol/L, respectively, while homeostasis model assessment of beta cell (HOMA-β) was increased by 0.4±0.1. Compared to the placebo group, the test group's FBG, insulin, HOMA-IR, TGs, total cholesterol, LDL, and VLDL were all significantly decreased, and HOMA-β was markedly improved. However, no notable statistical difference was observed in the change of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (P>0.05).

Conclusions: Combined supplementation with vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids for 6 weeks in patients with GDM can effectively reduce blood sugar and blood lipids, improve HOMA-β and insulin resistance, and ultimately effectively improve the glucose and lipid metabolism of patients.

Combination of Electroacupuncture and Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy Enhances Functional Recovery After Ischemic Stroke in Rats.

Both electroacupuncture and constraint-induced movement therapy have been reported to produce therapeutic effects on the recovery of ischemic stroke. The combined use of these two therapies is not rare clinically, although its effectiveness is not yet clear. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the combination of electroacupuncture and constraint-induced movement therapy in ischemic stroke rats, and to explore the potential molecular mechanisms. Ischemic stroke rat models were established by middle cerebral artery occlusion. Then, the rats were assigned to receive one of the following interventions: sole electroacupuncture, sole constraint-induced movement therapy, the combination of both therapies, and no treatment. Functional recovery was assessed with the beam balance test and rotarod test. The infarct volume of the brain and the expression of the molecules Nogo-A, P75, NGF, BDNF, and VEGF in the brain tissue were investigated. The results demonstrated that the combination of the two therapies significantly improved neurological functional recovery in ischemic stroke rats compared to each therapy alone (P < 0.01). We also observed a significant decrease in infarct volume in rats receiving the combined treatment. Nogo-A and P75 were downregulated and NGF, BDNF, and VEGF were upregulated in the combined treatment rats compared to the control rats. In conclusion, the combination of electroacupuncture and constraint-induced movement therapy enhanced functional recovery after ischemic stroke in rats, and it is a promising treatment strategy in the rehabilitation of stroke. The anti-Nogo-A effect of electroacupuncture may explain its good compatibility with CIMT in ischemic stroke rats.

Combustion-derived particulate organic matter associated with hemodynamic abnormality and metabolic dysfunction in healthy adults.

Epidemiological evidence on cardiometabolic health of particulate organic matter (POM) and its sources is sparse. In a panel of 73 healthy adults in Beijing, China, daily concentrations of ambient fine particulate matter-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and n-alkanes were measured throughout the study period, and Positive Matrix Factorization approach was used to identity PAHs sources. Linear mixed-effect models and mediation analyses were applied to examine the associations and potential interlink pathways between POM and biomarkers indicative of hemodynamics, insulin resistance, vascular calcification and immune inflammation. We found that significant alterations in cardiometabolic measures were associated with POM exposures. In specific, interquartile range increases in PAHs concentrations at prior up to 9 days were observed in association with significant elevations of 2.6-2.9% in diastolic blood pressure, 6.6-8.1% in soluble ST2, 10.5-14.5% in insulin, 40.9-45.7% in osteoprotegerin, and 36.3-48.7% in interleukin-17A. Greater associations were generally observed for PAHs originating from traffic emissions and coal burning. Mediation analyses revealed that POM exposures may prompt the genesis of hemodynamic abnormalities, possibly via worsening insulin resistance and calcification potential. These findings suggested that cardiometabolic health benefits would be achieved by reducing PM from combustion emissions.

In this study, six sediment cores were collected, and sequential extraction was applied in conjunction with the diffusive gradients in the thin films (DGT) technique to explore the effect of sand mining on the remobilization of Cu and Zn in the sediments. The results showed that Cu and Zn were mainly bound in the residual fraction in the sediments. C-Cu/Zn in the sediments presented obvious increasing trends at the bottom (-9 to -12 cm) at the four sites that experienced sand mining and a decreasing trend at the sites with no sand mining disturbance. Cu and Zn also tended to be transported from the sediments to the overlying water at the four sand mining sites. A correlation analysis found that F1 and F3 correlated well with C-Cu/Zn, indicating that the water/exchangeable fraction and oxidized fraction were the main fractions that led to increases in DGT-labile Cu and Zn in the sediments. Further analysis found that the introduction of oxygen (O) was the main reason for the simultaneous release of sulfur (S), Cu and Zn in the sediments, as indicated by the "dark area" of AgI gel appearing at the same position as the "hot spot area" of Chelex gel. Two main sand mining effects on the release of Cu and Zn were hypothesized: (1) intense sand disturbance leads to the transfer of the water/exchangeable fraction (F1) to the DGT-labile fraction and (2) O introduction promotes the reaction of stable sulfide (F3), thus transferring it to the DGT-labile fraction. The above results indicated that the sand mining industry should be paid much attention in the Jialing River, as it can obviously cause labile Cu and Zn release into the water.

Complement C3a activates osteoclasts by regulating the PI3K/PDK1/SGK3 pathway in patients with multiple myeloma.

Objective: Myeloma bone disease (MBD) is the most common complication of multiple myeloma (MM). Our previous study showed that the serum levels of C3/C4 in MM patients were significantly positively correlated with the severity of bone disease. However, the mechanism of C3a/C4a in osteoclasts MM patients remains unclear.

Methods: The formation and function of osteoclasts were analyzed after adding C3a/C4a . RNA-seq analysis was used to screen the potential pathways affecting osteoclasts, and the results were verified by Western blot, qRT-PCR, and pathway inhibitors.

Results: The osteoclast area per view induced by 1 μg/mL (mean ± SD: 50.828 ± 12.984%) and 10 μg/mL (53.663 ± 12.685%) of C3a was significantly increased compared to the control group (0 μg/mL) (34.635 ± 8.916%) ( < 0.001 and < 0.001, respectively). The relative mRNA expressions of genes, OSCAR/TRAP/RANKL/cathepsin K, induced by 1 μg/mL (median: 5.041, 3.726, 1.638, and 4.752, respectively) and 10 μg/mL (median: 5.140, 3.702, 2.250, and 5.172, respectively) of C3a was significantly increased compared to the control group (median: 3.137, 2.004, 0.573, and 2.257, respectively) (1 μg/mL = 0.001, = 0.003, < 0.001, and = 0.008, respectively; 10 μg/mL: < 0.001, = 0.019, < 0.001, and = 0.002, respectively). The absorption areas of the osteoclast resorption pits per view induced by 1 μg/mL (mean ± SD: 51.464 ± 11.983%) and 10 μg/mL (50.219 ± 12.067%) of C3a was also significantly increased (33.845 ± 8.331%) ( < 0.001 and < 0.001, respectively) compared to the control. There was no difference between the C4a and control groups. RNA-seq analysis showed that C3a promoted the proliferation of osteoclasts using the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway. The relative expressions of PIK3CA/phosphoinositide dependent kinase-1 (PDK1)/serum and glucocorticoid inducible protein kinases (SGK3) genes and PI3K/PDK1/p-SGK3 protein in the C3a group were significantly higher than in the control group. The activation role of C3a in osteoclasts of MM patients was reduced by the SGK inhibitor (EMD638683).

Conclusions: C3a activated osteoclasts by regulating the PI3K/PDK1/SGK3 pathways in MM patients, which was reduced using a SGK inhibitor. Overall, our results identified potential therapeutic targets and strategies for MBD patients.

Factors associated with behavioral intention of free and self-paid COVID-19 vaccination based on the social cognitive theory among nurses and doctors in China.

Objective: To examine the associations between factors based on the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) and behavioral intention of free and self-paid (600 RMB or 91 USD) COVID-19 vaccination of 80% effectiveness and rare mild side effects among doctors and nurses in China.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Setting: Public hospitals.

Participants: 362 doctors and 1702 nurses in major departments of five hospitals of three Chinese provinces.

Methods: An anonymous online survey was conducted from October to November 2020, facilitated by hospital administrators through online WeChat/QQ working groups. Data on outcome expectations, self-efficacy, norms, and COVID-19-related work experiences were collected. Multivariate logistic regression models were used for data analysis.

Results: The logistic regression analysis showed that physical (e.g., protective effect of vaccination) and self-evaluative outcome expectations (e.g., anticipated regret), self-efficacy, norms (e.g., descriptive norm, subjective norm, professional norm, and moral norm), and job satisfaction were significantly and positively associated with the free and self-paid COVID-19 vaccination intention outcomes among doctors and nurses, adjusted for background variables. Doctors who had engaged in COVID-19-related work reported higher self-paid vaccination intention.

Conclusions: Health promotion is needed to improve the uptake of COVID-19 vaccination among healthcare workers. Such interventions may consider modifying the identified factors of vaccination intention, including strengthening perceived efficacy, positive feelings about vaccination, the need to avoid future regret, self-efficacy, and social norms. Future studies should examine the actual behavior patterns of COVID-19 vaccination and testing the efficacy of promotion intervention through randomized controlled studies.

Prenatal High-Sucrose Diet Induced Vascular Dysfunction in Thoracic Artery of Fetal Offspring.

Scope: Maternal nutrition during pregnancy is related to intrauterine fetal development. The authors' previous work reports that prenatal high sucrose (HS) diet impaired micro-vascular functions in postnatal offspring. It is unclear whether/how prenatal HS causes vascular injury during fetal life.

Methods And Results: Pregnant rats are fed with normal drinking water or 20% high-sucrose solution during the whole gestational period. Pregnant HS increases maternal weight before delivery. Fetal thoracic aorta is separated for experiments. Angiotensin II (AII)-stimulated vascular contraction of fetal thoracic arteries in HS group is greater, which mainly results from the enhanced AT1 receptor (AT1R) function and the downstream signaling. Nifedipine significantly increases vascular tension in HS group, indicating that the L-type calcium channels (LTCCs) function is strengthened. 2-Aminoethyl diphenylborinate (2-APB), inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs) inhibitor, increases vascular tension induced by AII in HS group and ryanodine receptors-sensitive vascular tone shows no difference in the two groups, which suggested that the activity of IP3Rs-operated calcium channels is increased.

Conclusion: These findings suggest that prenatal HS induces vascular dysfunction of thoracic arteries in fetal offspring by enhancing AT1R, LTCCs function and IP3Rs-associated calcium channels, providing new information regarding the impact of prenatal HS on the functional development of fetal vascular systems.

Chlorpromazine Sensitizes Progestin-Resistant Endometrial Cancer Cells to MPA by Upregulating PRB.

Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is the main conservative treatment for endometrial cancer (EC) patients desirable to preserve fertility and those who cannot suffer from surgery. Considering the high incidence of progestin resistance and recurrence of MPA treatment, we reproposed antipsychotics chlorpromazine (CPZ) as a new strategy for both progestin-sensitive and -resistant endometrial cancer. Cytobiology experiments indicated that CPZ could significantly suppress proliferation, migration/invasion and induce apoptosis in Ishikawa (ISK) and KLE EC cell lines. And xenograft mouse models were constructed to validate the antitumor effect and toxicity of CPZ . CPZ inhibited the growth at a low dose of 3mg/kg and the mice exhibited no signs of toxicity. Next, concomitant treatment and sequential treatment with CPZ and MPA were proceeded to analysis the synergistic effect in EC cells. Concomitant treatment only performed a limited synergistic effect on apoptosis in ISK and KLE cells. Nevertheless, sequential treatment showed favorable synergistic effects in progestin-resistant KLE cells. Finally, a stable MPA-resistant cell line shRNA was established to explore the mechanism of CPZ reversing progestin resistance. Immunoblot data showed that CPZ inhibited the activation of PI3K/AKT signal in ISK and KLE cells and upregulated PRB expression in progestin-resistant cells, by which CPZ overcame progestin resistance to MPA. Thus, CPZ might act as a candidate drug for conservative treatment and sequential treatment with CPZ and MPA could be a suitable therapeutic option for progestin resistant patients.

An evaluation of the Unyvero pneumonia system for rapid detection of microorganisms and resistance markers of lower respiratory infections-a multicenter prospective study on ICU patients.

Rapid diagnosis of microorganisms and antibiotic resistance is vital for the appropriate treatment of patients with lower respiratory infections, especially for patients in Intensive Care Unit. We conducted a multicenter prospective study to evaluate the ability of the Unyvero pneumonia system for rapid detection from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in China. Eighty-four patients with lower respiratory infections were enrolled, and their BALF samples were collected, and Unyvero, a rapid molecular diagnostic sample-to-answer solution based on multiple PCRs, was applied to detect 21 types of pathogens and 19 types of resistance markers, compared to a routine bacterial culture method. The overall concordance of Unyvero and routine culture was 69/84 (82.1%). Unyvero detected more microorganisms than routine culture (38.1% vs 27.4%, P<0.05) and reported multi-pathogens in more patients than routine culture (10.7% vs 2.4%, P=0.01). The overall sensitivity and specificity of Unyvero for bacteria detection were 84.0% and 98.0%. Besides, Unyvero showed a good performance for antibiotic-resistant bacteria, except Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The concordance was 87.5-100% for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and carbapenem-resistant isolates but was only 20-33.3% for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The high-level semi-quantitative signal intensity of microorganisms detected positive by Unyvero correlates well with positive bacterial cultures. For specimens that were exposed to antibiotic treatment, the Unyvero pneumonia system showed a high concordance with routine bacterial culture and performs well for the detection of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, especially, carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae. It shows promise in guiding the clinical use of antibiotics, such as ceftazidime/avibactam. However, the system needs improvement in detecting resistance markers of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Behavioural intention of receiving COVID-19 vaccination, social media exposures and peer discussions in China.

The study aimed to investigate behavioural intentions to receive free and self-paid COVID-19 vaccinations (BICV-F and BICV-SP) among Chinese university students if the vaccine was 80% effective with rare mild side effects, to examine their associations with social media exposures and peer discussions regarding COVID-19 vaccination, and to explore the mediational role of perceived information sufficiency about COVID-19 vaccination. An online anonymous survey (N = 6922) was conducted in November 2020 in five Chinese provinces. Logistic regression and path analysis were adopted. The prevalence of BICV-F and BICV-SP were 78.1% and 57.7%. BICV-F was positively associated with the frequencies of passive social media exposure (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.32, P < 0.001), active social media interaction (AOR = 1.13, P < 0.001) and peer discussions (AOR = 1.17, P < 0.001). Indirect effects of the three factors on BICV-F via perceived information sufficiency were all significant (P < 0.001). The direct effect of active social media interaction on BICV-F was significantly negative (P < 0.001). Similar associations/mediations were observed for BICV-SP. The COVID-19 vaccination intention of Chinese university students needs improvement. Boosting social media exposures and peer discussions may raise students' perceived information sufficiency and subsequently increase their vaccination intention. Considering the potential negative effect of active social media interaction, caution is needed when using social media to promote COVID-19 vaccination.

Prevalence and associated factors of intention of COVID-19 vaccination among healthcare workers in China: application of the Health Belief Model.

Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at an increased risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and warrant COVID-19 vaccination to reduce nosocomial infections. This study investigated: (1) the prevalence of behavioral intention of COVID-19 vaccination (BICV) under eight scenarios combining vaccines' effectiveness/safety/cost, plus two general scenarios of free/self-paid vaccination given governmental/hospital recommendations, (2) perceptions involving preferred timing of COVID-19 vaccination and impacts of various attributes on BICV, and (3) factors of BICV based on the Health Belief Model. An anonymous online cross-sectional survey was conducted among 2,254 full-time doctors/nurses in three Chinese provinces during 10/2020-11/2020. The prevalence of BICV was 75.1%/68.0% among nurses/doctors under the most optimum scenario of this study (free/80% effectiveness/rare mild side effects); it dropped to 64.6%/56.5% if it costed 600 Yuan (USD90). Similar prevalence was obtained (72.7%/71.2%) if the vaccination was recommended by the government/hospitals but dropped to <50% if effectiveness was 50% or mild side effects were common; 13.0% preferred to take up COVID-19 vaccination at the soonest (81.8% would wait and see). Scientific proof (completion of phase III clinical trials and approval from health authorities) was rated the highest in its impacts on vaccination decision, followed by vaccines' performance, and then logistics. Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that perceived severity, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy (but neither perceived susceptibility nor perceived barriers) were significantly associated with the two BICV outcomes. The coverage of COVID-19 vaccination would be high only if the vaccines perform well. Health promotion may take the findings into account.

Synthesis and application of low-cost layered double hydroxides intercalated by gluconic acid anion for flame retardancy and tensile strength conservation of high filling epoxy resin.

Epoxy resin (EP) is a polymer that is widely used in different aspects of life, but its flammability property limits its fields of applications. Most flame retardants at present cannot be applied practically in scale due to their toxicity, incompatibility in polymers, degraded mechanical property or high cost of raw materials and comprehensive preparation process. Layered double hydroxides intercalated by gluconic acid anion (GLDHs) may serve as a new approach. GLDHs with Mg/Al ratio of 3/1 and 2/1 were first coprecipitated with low-cost green reactants, MgCl·6HO, AlCl·6HO, NaOH and sodium gluconate. Their structures were confirmed by X-ray diffractions (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analysis; their thermal properties were analyzed by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). Composites containing 40 wt.% GLDHs were easily manufactured with normal magnetic stirring without any filler precipitation. The combustion properties of the composites filled with 40 wt.% GLDHs2 are as follows: the limit oxygen index (LOI) could rise to 29.8% from 25.2% of pristine EP; UL-94 can reach V-1 level with total burning time of only 12.1 s without dropping; compared to pristine EP, the heat release rate peak (PHRR) could drop to 30% with heavy decrease in the smoke production rate and CO production rate. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA) tests showed that the addition of 40 wt.% GLDHs had little impact on the glass transition temperature of the composites and could slightly improve their rigidity and toughness. Tensile strength of the composites filled with 40 wt.% GLDHs2 was almost close to 88% of the tensile strength of pristine EP. Above all, GLDHs with good compatibility in polymers can serve as a promising environmental friendly and low-cost flame retardant for EP and other heterochain polymers.

Identification of LINC00665-miR-let-7b-CCNA2 competing endogenous RNA network associated with prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma.

Prognosis of patients with lung cancer remains extremely poor; thus, we sought to unearth novel competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks associated with the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Aberrant mRNAs were identified from the intersection of three Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed, and miRNAs and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) upstream of mRNAs were predicted. In the present study, 402 upregulated and 638 downregulated genes in lung cancer tissues were identified. Functional analysis showed significant enrichment of cancer pathways. In these top hub genes, 10 upregulated and 7 downregulated genes had substantial prognostic values in LUAD. Thirty-seven miRNAs were predicted to target 17 key genes, and only five miRNAs exhibited prognostic correlation. Through stepwise reverse prediction and validation from miRNA to lncRNA, four key lncRNAs were identified using expression and survival analysis. Ultimately, the co-expression analysis identified LINC00665-miR-let-7b-CCNA2 as the key ceRNA network associated with the prognosis of LUAD. We successfully constructed a novel ceRNA network wherein each component was significantly associated with the prognosis of LUAD. Hence, we propose that this network may provide key biomarkers or potential therapeutic targets for LUAD prognosis.

Factors Influencing Depression and Mental Distress Related to COVID-19 Among University Students in China: Online Cross-sectional Mediation Study.

Background: The COVID-19 epidemic may elevate mental distress and depressive symptoms in various populations in China.

Objective: This study investigates the levels of depression and mental distress due to COVID-19, and the associations between cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors, and depression and mental distress due to COVID-19 among university students in China.

Methods: A large-scale online cross-sectional study (16 cities in 13 provinces) was conducted among university students from February 1 to 10, 2020, in China; 23,863 valid questionnaires were returned. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 was used to assess depression. Structural equation modeling was performed to test mediation and suppression effects.

Results: Of the 23,863 participants, 47.1% (n=11,235) reported high or very high levels of one or more types of mental distress due to COVID-19; 39.1% (n=9326) showed mild to severe depression. Mental distress due to COVID-19 was positively associated with depression. All but one factor (perceived infection risks, perceived chance of controlling the epidemic, staying at home, contacted people from Wuhan, and perceived discrimination) were significantly associated with mental distress due to COVID-19 and depression. Mental distress due to COVID-19 partially mediated and suppressed the associations between some of the studied factors and depression (effect size of 6.0%-79.5%).

Conclusions: Both mental distress due to COVID-19 and depression were prevalent among university students in China; the former may have increased the prevalence of the latter. The studied cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors related to COVID-19 may directly or indirectly (via mental distress due to COVID-19) affect depression. Interventions to modify such factors may reduce mental distress and depressive symptoms during the COVID-19 epidemic.

Intention to Receive the COVID-19 Vaccination in China: Application of the Diffusion of Innovations Theory and the Moderating Role of Openness to Experience.

COVID-19 has caused a devastating impact on public health and made the development of the COVID-19 vaccination a top priority. Herd immunity through vaccination requires a sufficient number of the population to be vaccinated. Research on factors that promote intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination is warranted. Based on Diffusion of Innovations Theory, this study examines the association between the perceived efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccination, use of social media for COVID-19 vaccine-related information, openness to experience and descriptive norm with the intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, and the moderating role of openness to experience among 6922 university students in mainland China. The intention to receive the free and self-paid COVID-19 vaccination is 78.9% and 60.2%, respectively. Results from path analyses show that perceived efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccination, use of social media for COVID-19 vaccine-related information, and openness to experience and descriptive norm are all positively associated with the intention to receive COVID-19 free and self-paid vaccination. The association between the perceived efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccination and descriptive norm with the intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination is stronger among those with a lower level of openness to experience. Our findings support the usefulness of Diffusion of Innovations Theory and the moderating role of openness of experience in explaining intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

is an aquatic perennial herb distributed worldwide. In this research, the complete chloroplast genome of was sequenced and assembled. Its complete genome size was 152,698 bp in length. The typical quadripartite structure was shown, which contained a large single-copy region (82,940 bp), a small single-copy region (18,262 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (25,748 bp). The CG content of this genome was 37.6%. A total of 114 genes have been identified in the genome, including 80 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and 4 rRNA genes. In addition, 18 genes possessed at least one intron. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that was nested in Plantaginaceae with 100% bootstrap value and was a sister to , , , and .

The structure of metallic melts in eutectic alloys based on the Wulff cluster model: theory meets experiment.

In the present work, the Wulff cluster model, which has been proved to be successful for pure metals and homogeneous alloys, has been extended to eutectic alloys (Ag-Cu and Al-Si). In our model, the shapes of the clusters in melts were determined by the interfacial energy calculated by density functional theory (DFT) of different facet families based on Wulff theory. The cluster size was given by the pair distribution function (PDF) g(r), which was converted from experimental high-temperature X-ray diffraction (HTXRD). The simulated XRD curves in the high temperature region were in good agreement with the experimental results. For the Al-Si alloy, a deviation of the intensity and position of the second peak near the eutectic temperature was observed. The simulated results after structure and composition modification corresponded to the experimental ones. It indicates that the deviation is mainly related to the significant change of the cluster size during Si clusters' growth processes before nucleation. Differently, there are no such nucleation processes at temperatures near the eutectic point due to the relatively high nucleation barriers of the two components in the Ag-Cu alloy.

Infection Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance Levels in and in Gynecological Outpatients of a Tertiary Hospital in China from 2015 to 2018.

The aim of this study was to estimate the and infection prevalence and antibiotic resistance levels in gynecological outpatients. Clinical characteristics and laboratory data of gynecological outpatients of the Fourth People's Hospital of Chongqing from 2015 to 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Antibiotic resistance levels in and were defined by a commercial kit for antibiotic susceptibility testing. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to evaluate risk factors associated with isolation. Comparisons of yearly distributions and resistance rates were assessed by chi-square tests. Fifty-six percent of gynecological outpatients were positive for , and 11.02% were positive for . In the univariate analysis, women aged 30-39 years or with a history of pregnancy or gynecological diseases had an increased risk for isolation, while women who were postmenopausal or had an education level of undergraduate degree or above had a decreased risk of isolation. In the multivariate logistic regression model, an independent risk factor for isolation was a history of gynecological diseases, while a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or above were protective factors against isolation. There were distinctly gradual increases in the positivity rates of and from 2015 to 2018 and an overall increasing trend of resistance to ten antibiotics among and . The top three antibiotics associated with resistance were ofloxacin, sparfloxacin, and levofloxacin. Doxycycline, josamycin, and minocycline were preferred because they had the lowest levels of resistance. Increases in the prevalence of infection and antibiotic resistance in and were observed from 2015 to 2018, clearly confirming the necessity to monitor the standardized administration of antibiotics.

Role of ATF3 as a prognostic biomarker and correlation of ATF3 expression with macrophage infiltration in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: The abnormal expression of activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), a member of the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) family of transcription factors, is associated with carcinogenesis. However, the expression pattern and exact role of ATF3 in the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear.

Methods: We used UALCAN, ONCOMINE, Kaplan-Meier plotter, and cBioPortal databases to investigate the prognostic value of ATF3 expression in HCC.

Results: ATF3 was found to be expressed at low levels in multiple HCC tumor tissues. Moreover, low ATF3 expression was significantly associated with clinical cancer stage and pathological tumor grade in patients with HCC. Therefore, low expression of ATF3 was significantly associated with poor overall survival in patients with HCC. Functional network analysis showed that ATF3 regulates cytokine receptors and signaling pathways via various cancer-related kinases, miRNAs, and transcription factors. ATF3 expression was found to be correlated with macrophage infiltration levels and with macrophage immune marker sets in HCC patients.

Conclusions: Using data mining methods, we clarified the role of ATF3 expression and related regulatory networks in HCC, laying a foundation for further functional research. Future research will validate our findings and establish clinical applications of ATF3 in the diagnosis and treatment of HCC.

How Can Alternative Exercise Traditions Help Against the Background of the COVID-19 in Cancer Care? An Overview of Systematic Reviews.

Purpose: To evaluate the quality of systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SR/MAs) on alternative exercise traditions in cancer care.

Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Ovid, EBSCOhost, WanFang Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and VIP Database were searched from their inception to June 30, 2020. The search used a combination of subject words and free words. The search terms included "Tai Chi," "Qigong," "Baduanjin," "Yoga," "Pilates," "Cancer," "Meta-analysis," and "Systematic review." Two researchers independently performed literature screening and data extraction and used AMSTAR scale and PRISMA statement to evaluate the methodology and the quality of the evidence.

Results: A total of 26 SR/MAs were included. The AMSTAR scale score was 5-10 points, with an average of 7.46±1.33 points. Overall, the methodological quality was considered to be moderate. The PRISMA list score was 13-24 points, with an average of 19.19±2.86 points. Among the papers evaluated, eight reports were relatively complete. A total of 15 papers indicated certain defects. A total of three papers showed relatively serious information defects.

Conclusion: Relative to the control group, alternative exercise traditions may be effective in improving the quality of life, anxiety, depression, distress, and fatigue of cancer patients. However, they may not necessarily improve patients' sleep outcome, body mass index, and pain. During convalescence, cancer patients can be encouraged to start engaging in physical exercise, and professionals can develop appropriate exercise alternatives to ensure the expected effect of exercise while ensuring the safety of patients. The methodological quality of the systematic evaluations of the intervention effects of alternative exercise traditions on cancer patients is not satisfactory. Hence, focus should be directed to the improvement of the preliminary design scheme, publication status, literature retrieval, conflict of interest, and other aspects.
