Dr. Panfoli is a member of various medical and scientific societies (Euretina, FISV, SIB). With her innovative research approach, Dr. Panfoli has discovered the extra-mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in the rod outer segment disks of the vertebrate retina, and is now exploiting it in other systems: recent publications include papers on the presence of an extra-mitochondrial aerobic respiration in exosomes. Dr. Panfoli holds a Degree in Medicine (MD) at Genoa University School of Medicine. She also holds a degree in Architecture and a MS in Biological Sciences with highest honors from Genoa University School of Architecture and Sciences, respectively.
