Introduction

Dr. Saposnik is a scientist and Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Toronto interested in cardiovascular outcomes and Decision neuroscience research. He is the recipient of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada Career Scientist Award.
His vision is improving cardiovascular outcomes through cost-effective, high impact & innovative research by applying principles from behavioral economics that is integrated within existing clinical care services across Canada (and Worldwide).
Following his PhD in Decision Neuroscience (Neuroeconomics) at the University of Zurich, Gustavo gained experience and great interest in understanding how physicians make decisions. He created a platform applying concepts from Neuroeconomics to facilitate research studies by assessing physicians' and patients' factors associated with therapeutic inertia, herding, overconfidence, etc. His team developed and tested the efficacy of an educational intervention to ameliorate therapeutic inertia. He is currently leading international studies on therapeutic decisions in cardiovascular disease, medical oncology, and multiple sclerosis.
Gustavo’s international leadership in outcomes research and decision neuroscience is reflected by grants (23 as PI), personal awards, over 260 peer-reviewed publications, collaborations, invitations as visiting professor and keynote speaker, and AHA roles (Stroke Oversight Committee and 7 AHA writing groups).
Gustavo is an enthusiastic collaborator interested in international partnerships to apply his Neuroeconomics platform into medical decision-making.
