Introduction

Ginés Viscor Carrasco (Zaragoza, Spain, 1955). Holds a Biological Sciences B.Sci. (1977) and a Ph.D. (1985) from the University of Barcelona (UB). His academic career at UB started as Profesor Ayudante (Assistant) from 1980 to 1986 when obtained a position as Profesor Titular (Associated Professor) at the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology. From 2003 serves as a Catedrático (Full Professor) in the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology at the School of Biology of UB.
He has participated in numerous research projects, most of them have been directed by him. He has published over 120 articles in scientific journals. Currently coordinates the activity of the Adaptative Physiology Group: Exercise and Hypoxia officially considered by UB and Catalan Government (2017 SGR 17) as a consolidated group. He is also the scientific in charge for the UB Service of Hypobaria and Biomedical Physiology. Their current interest is on the adaptive responses against environmental challenges such as hypoxia conditions, especially intermittent hypobaric hypoxia exposure. Studies have been developed at central level (cardiovascular, hematological and ventilatory responses) as also at peripheral level (capillarization and morphofunctional changes in skeletal muscle and myocardium). He also performs some research on human and animal ecophysiology in collaboration with scientists at other Departments of UB, CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) and foreign research centers.
Along his career he has been a teacher in some General Biology and Physiology related courses at the Biology School. Nowadays he is involved in teaching at Environmental Sciences, Biology and Biomedical Sciences Degrees and Integrative Physiology UB Master. From 1991 he has participated in Physiology Teaching innovation projects, being a founding member of the Grupo de Innovación docente en Fisiología.
He participated in HAPPOM (High Altitude Physiology and Physiopathology: from the Organism to the Molecule) in EU ALFA program Europe-Aid (ALFA II-0379-FCD) organized by Prof. Jean-Paul Richalet. He was the General Coordinator (2013-2016) of the Iberoamerican Network on High Altitude Physiology and Medicine ALTMEDFIS, supported by CYTED Program (213RT0478).
