Introduction

Efstathia Pasmatzi, graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Patras, Greece in 1991. She trained in Dermatology at the Departments of Dermatology, Universities of Göttingen, Germany and Patras, Greece.
She earned her Doctoral Degree in 1998 at the School of Medicine, University of Patras, Greece. She trained in Molecular Biology techniques at the Department of Dermatology, Harvard University, Boston and in the treatment of extensive and severe skin burns using cultures of autologous epidermal keratinocytes at the Unfallkrankenhaus in Berlin, Germany.
Her main research interests include the effects of retinoids on epithelial and non-epithelial tissues, the carbohydrate composition of keratinocytes of the embryonic and adult human epidermis and systemic immunomodulation using topical agents. She has published a large number of articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She was awarded the First Prize for the best basic research and the First Prize for the best clinical research presentation at the International Symposium “Modern Trends in Skin Pharmacology” in June 2000, held in Athens, Greece.
She is currently serving as Associate Professor at the Department of Dermatology, School of Medicine, University of Patras, Greece.
